I have always been a fan of maxi dresses. Before our dress code at work was changed from business casual to just casual, wearing those dresses was unacceptable. However, once the new dress code came into place, now anything goes. I bought this dress a few years ago and it has been hanging in my closet, waiting for the right time to be worn. Finally, the time has come. It's comfortable, it's pretty and perfect for a busy day at work.

Now, that every day in our company is casual (not just Fridays anymore), I can dress in jeans pretty much every day. However, I still try not to relax too much, with the exception of some very lazy days when I do not put much thought into what I wear. At the very least, my trick to dressing casually but not too casually is adding some bright colors to the outfit. They always dress up an outfit and make it seem more 'festive' than it was intended to be.

Up until a little over a year ago I thought sample sales were an urban myth. I had never been to one, and in my mind they were something only available to certain people with certain connections or only shown in the movies. Until one day one of my coworker friends walked into the office and announced that she had heard about a Tahari sample sale that was starting that day. "Let's just go check it out" was the verdict we both gave. A couple hours later, we left the venue with a few purchased items, and a feeling of great accomplishment. This hot pink top was one of the purchases that day. Every time I look at it in my closet, I see the distinctive difference between an item of high quality, such as this one, and the items purchased at the typical stores I go to where everything is trendy but cheap. Wearing an item like this makes me realize that it is time to put quality over quantity. It is time for me to stop shopping for bags of clothes, just because they are 'cute and cheap'. It is time to learn how to invest into my clothing choices, as wearing nicer clothes can be a great self-confidence boost.

The other day, as I was going through my older posts, I realized just how much I appreciate having started this blog four years ago. Even though I do not post as much as I would prefer, and the photos on this blog are obviously far-far away from professional (especially in this particular post - I do know how awful they are), it is so nice to be able to go back in years and see what I was going through at certain points of my life. Even the pictures that I thought were most-poorly done, which they were as they were taken in my apartment with the worst lighting, now seem to be the hidden treasure of my past years. Therefore, I decided to post the below horrible pictures, as now I know that one day I will find them very valuable.

More and more I realize what a big influence clothes have on me. Put on a nice-looking outfit, and you will set yourself up for a better day. I have been much lazier lately, I admit it; but whenever I put some effort into dressing nicely, I feel differently. I have always been largely into fashion and style, and I am glad that I have not lost that interest. There are so many possibilities, so many ways to express how we feel and what message we want to communicate to people around us. Clothes are obviously not who we are, but they are a big part of who we are. So don't save that 'special' outfit for a 'special' occasion - wear it today, and you will see how any ordinary day can suddenly turn into a special one.
