Being Happy

My version of a little black dress, as worn to another Speakeasy Dollhouse play. Yep, I went again, and yep, I admit that I'm addicted. Oh well, as long as it makes me happy J
That’s the thing - being happy. I was talking to my friend as we were walking through the beautiful venue of the play, about the importance of finding something that makes you truly happy, and even more importantly, being able to indulge into it without guilt and regrets. This strategy of enjoying things that make us happy to the fullest should apply to anything and everything in our lives; and it all depends on us and our attitude towards life itself. We get to choose whether to do what we truly like regardless of other people's opinions and stereotypes or to fall under those stereotypes and outside opinions and give up something we enjoy. Who cares if you don't support common views and opinions - you are your own person with your own belief and values; who cares if you choose to stay home when everyone is going out or to go out when everyone is staying in - you are free in your actions and desires; who cares if you don't fit in - be unique as that's what makes you you. There are so many opportunities we end up passing up because we are afraid that someone will not approve. Well guess what - no matter what decision you make there will always be someone who won't approve. So do what you feel like doing and more and more you will find joy and happiness in little things that surround you every day.

  1. Last Sunday I went to a chamber music concert in Detroit. Later, I talked to a friend who had been playing poker. He laughed and said, "We were both doing what makes us happy." Fr. Pedro Arupe said, "Nothing is more practical than finding God, than falling in Love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, whom you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in Love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.
