Do What You Want

So I’m staying home sick today and of course I have some time to brainstorm and to post. I have been thinking a lot lately about this idea of “we are the creators of our own destiny.” Do you think it’s true? I think it is. However, even realizing that, I am still unable to change certain things in my life I so much want to change. Well, as they say: “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” and the same way these changes will take some time to materialize. As long as we can stay focused and calm at the same time, we can definitely achieve pretty much anything we wish for.

There are all these made-up, bogus principles we (or I rather) live by: I have to behave in a certain way, I have to get to work the earliest, I have to only eat certain things, I have to put everyone’s needs before my own, I have to, I have to, I have to.

Unfortunately, in pursuit of all these somewhat ‘irrelevant’ ideals, we forget to prioritize the truly important aspects of our lives. Why don’t we strive to be the truest to ourselves and as accepting of ourselves as we can possibly be? Why can’t we put the emphasis on “I want to”, and not on “I have to” in each of those sentence; not in a selfish way, but in a way that will make everyone see that no matter how much you love someone or something, YOU still come first, your opinion matters and you can do what YOU want, what makes YOU happy. Stop playing by someone else’s rules and acting based on someone else’s opinions. Quit lying to yourself and convincing yourself that what you want is not right for you or that you don’t deserve something. You deserve it all! Stay true to who you are, be nice to people around you, find a focus in your life and find yourself. Then, you will see just how great the world YOU created truly is.

Starting Point

You're never too old to start from scratch.. Instead of running blindly in all direction trying to figure your life out, at some point just stop and go back to the beginning to start building yourself up again. An important thing is find that 'beginning'. Think back - when did things start going south? When did you start running from something and towards something? That should probably be your starting point. It won't come to you in an instant, it may take days, months or maybe even years to figure out, but don't give up because the more you wait and 'pretend' that everything is going to change, the further you get from eliminating  your internal distress. Put everything in perspective: what will you gain if you change the situation? What will you gain if you change your attitude towards the situation? Which option offers more potential rewards and which one poses more potential threats? If all this thinking is giving you a headache then just go with your gut. It never really worked for me, but at the same time I never really tried as I prefer more of a reasonable, well-thought-through approach. But to each its own, so go ahead and do what's right for you.

Show-Inspired

In the past couple of weeks, I have been watching the final season of one of my favorite shows, Gossip Girl, and crying pretty much over every single outfit. So many amazing ideas! Variety of shapes, colors, prints, styles - so much inspiration! Below is one of those great ideas - royal blue, white, and golden sequins. Fun, festive, fierce.

Happy New Year!

Have you ever wondered what life principals underlie every step of your way? How can one person have their life figured out from the very early age, and another take a lifetime to find their calling? How can one person have a family in their early 20s, and another focus solely on their career until their late 30s? How can one person instantly know what their perfect job and perfect place are, and another have to try dozens of positions to eventually feel content? The truth is - everything in our lives has to be earned or deserved. Sounds kind of scary and burdening, doesn’t it? But it's not. It does not mean we have to work ourselves to the point of exhaustion, stop sleeping and eating if we want to get a "point" towards our dreams; on the contrary, all we have to do is put ourselves together, accept our current state, be grateful for what we have, and do something small towards either achieving our goals (for those who know what they are); figuring out what our goals are; or just being a better person by becoming kinder to ourselves and to people around us. How many times have we heard that we need to get out of our comfort zone to learn something new and become a more well-rounded person? Well, maybe it's time to get IN our comfort zone. Maybe it's time to do what we like, regardless of what others think, because when we find that place in life, when we feel comfortable with who we are, getting out of our comfort zone becomes meaningful as opposed to simply pushing our limits for no reason.

Happy New Year, everyone! May this year be an opportunity for you to ‘earn’ that step to the next level of your life, to move forward closer to your goals and dreams and to enjoy every second of the way.
