Weekly IDEAS

This week's Weekly IDEAS post is actually very meaningful as it turns out it's my 100th post! I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for checking in to my blog - I hope it helped you find new ideas, get inspired or learn what not to do for your own creations.

Today was quite a productive day - I was able to indulge in some of my favorite occupations, such as doing grocery shopping (one of my favorite activities!), going to Starbucks to pick up a cup of joe, taking a walk with my mom in a beautiful park 15 minutes away from our house, watching some reality television, as well allotting some time to do a big part of my homework. Tomorrow I'm planning to pay a visit to center city Philadelphia to finally put to use my Macy's gift card that I got as a gift for Christmas. Don't know how I was able to hold it idle for so long!

Only in Philadelphia

So I'm standing at Temple University train station waiting for my train (which is late as usual), and I notice this guy a few feet away looking at me. I glance away not wanting to look awkward staring. With my side vision, I see the guys starts moving slowly towards me staring intensely. I get all prepared, thinking he probably likes me and wants to come over and start a conversation. Wrong! "Do you have a spare quarter?" the guy says, and after I confusedly say: "No, sorry," he moves to the next "victim." Awkward!

Anyways, that was just a funny moment, so I thought I'd share the story. In the meantime, I had one more shortfall today. The thing is that weather forecast said it would rain today. So instead of wearing my beautiful Franco Sarto booties (pictures 2 and 3), I opted out for my good old every-day boots (picture 1, also by Franco Sarto). Well, of course it did not start raining until I got home...

When the Mood is Right

Another beautiful day here, in Philadelphia. It feels so nice to just get in a car and drive through the sunny streets enjoying the view, or to go for a walk with a friend discussing plans for the future weekends and outings. When the mood is right so many exciting things come to mind!

Winter Sun

Sometimes all I need is some sun to put me in a good cheery mood for the whole day. And today is one of those wonderful sunny days, when you just cannot believe it is still the middle of winter. Too bad we still cannot completely get rid of all the heavy coats and winter static. I practically electrocute myself every time I touch a power switch, my laptop or my poor baby cat. Sorry!

Weekly IDEAS

The first week of classes has ended and I think for the first time in the history of my college-attending I have not changed any of my classes! I usually keep tweaking my schedule until all the classes are reserved by other students, and I am left with the worst possible schedule. I guess having finally recognized this pattern in my last semester I decided to finally do it right.

This weekend, full of plans and ambitions, I was excited to wake up on Saturday and start getting ready for my outing to Philadelphia center city with CJ of Butters and Dash. Guess what was the first thing I heard waking up? The snowplow outside my window! It snowed! For the first time this winter (the last doesn’t count – it was embarrassing to even call that ‘snow’). So in an attempt to avoid city sleet, dirt and wetness, we decided to reschedule the journey for the next weekend. Well, we’ll see how that will turn out. Please, Mr. Winter Weather, be nice this time!
For my Weekly IDEAS post this week here's a mix of cold winter experiences and warm vacation memories:

My Very Own Fashion Slipup

Even though fashion is all about breaking rules these days, there are certain rules that should stay unchanged. The focus of my today’s post is my own fashion faux pas. The thing is my winter break was very eventful, so between Christmas shopping, New Year’s in the Poconos and a week in Aruba I did not have that much time to get ready for college (I mean, how important is it anyway?! Just kidding!) So last night, when I was putting all my textbooks and notebooks together I have realized that I forgot to buy a school bag that would carry all those books! The solution came fast – I decided to carry a bag I bought a few years back during my class trip to Disney World. Well, BAD SOLUTION! I mean, paired with a winter coat and boots, my bright yellow beach/shopping bag looked simply disturbing! Embarrassing… Well, just to somehow justify my bad [fashion] behavior, I spent the day looking for other people’s weird winter solutions.

Here are a few things that I personally find absolutely unacceptable (sorry if I hurt someone’s feelings):
      1.       Beach bags and winter coats (my own faux pas)
      2.       Parkas and ballet flats (I spotted a lady on the train)
      3.       Stilettos and backpacks (shockingly enough they are all over the campus!)
      4.       [Lady-like] dresses and sneakers
And here I am, looking embarrassed and winter-weird:

Back to School

My rehabilitation period from Aruba has not lasted long - yesterday was the first day of classes back in college. While the fact definitely does not make me happy (ahhh, homework again!), the fact that it is my last semester before I graduate kind of makes up for the disappointment. But I won't get too excited because there are still about 4 months, 6 classes and endless amounts of presentations, exams and homework till graduation. Thinking about it makes me very anxious and stressed out, so my mantra for now is "Relax, take one step at a time and enjoy your final days of college." The only problem is that following it is one of the hardest things for me as I tend to over-think things and over-stress about situations. Oh well, maybe it's finally time for a change...

Just Another Manic Monday...

It is so difficult to come back home after a week of amazing vacation. Things seem so mundane, there are no bright colors and tempting appearances of sun, sand and sea, and for me still being in a relaxed mode, it takes twice as much time to complete all the routine things around here. Thank goodness I have another day off today! I still have to get ready for my final semester which starts tomorrow, as absolutely nothing has been done so far.

Back to Reality...

That’s it – my vacation to Aruba has come to an end. We came back from “one happy island” last night, and today I’m in the most nostalgic mood. Let’s just say – it’s a magical, amazing, beautiful, happy place. Every day of the vacation was completely unbelievable! I wish it could last longer… But like all great pleasant things it ended a little too fast. Now I have to get back to reality and get ready for my final (and toughest) semester of college that starts on Tuesday. For my Weekly IDEAS I am posting five pictures from my vacation.

Taking It Easy

I admit - I have not been a good blogger this year. Good thing it's only the fifth day of the year, so that does not really define me as an overall bad blogger, there's still time to prove my true dedication. The thing is I have been simply taking things easy. I'm on my break, I have just healed from my skiing injuries (muscle pains, anyone?), and, here it comes... I'm going to Aruba in 2 days! So all those things made me stray away a little from my favorite occupation. So here's my easy, comfy outfit.

New Year’s in Poconos

New Year’s has always been one of my most favorite holidays ever! In Russia we have a saying “New Year’s is a family holiday,” so I have spent pretty much every New Year’s with my parents. It’s great to meet the New Year in the company of your loved ones. This year, we went to the Poconos with our family friends and their kids for the entire New Year’s weekend. The get-away was absolutely amazing! 2012 was met to the highest potential with lots of fun and great time, and on the first day of the year I went skiing for the very first time in my life! I think that’s the way to start a New Year! I fell approximately 17 times, but I made it to the bottom of the slope, so who counts? It feels a little sad to be back, but all the great memories from the weekend make me feel excited for all the new adventures of this year that are about to come.

Here's a quick picture recap of my New Year's weekend:
